Culturally Informed Somatic Practices for Trauma Recovery and Everyday Stress

Rooted in Cultural Wisdom and Collective Care

Roots of Resilience hosts monthly community circles + monthly learning circles
weaving nervous system care, trauma first aid, and cultural healing wisdom — blending simple, body-based (somatic) techniques for stress relief with grounding practices rooted in the wisdom of Indigenous Mesoamerican traditions and the Andes.

Through Somatic Practices, Curanderismo, Breathwork, Sound, and Plant Medicine,
we offer gentle, practical tools to help you feel steady and supported.

We approach these experiences without judgment, guiding you toward empowerment in your healing.

What is a learning circle?

A learning circle is a community-based model rooted in Indigenous pedagogies of collective knowing. Unlike a classroom or workshop, a learning circle assumes that wisdom is already present in the room and the role of the facilitator is not to pour information into participants, but to hold the conditions in which knowing can emerge, be shared, and be integrated.

In this context, the circle format honors the teaching that all people carry cultural knowledge, lived experience, and embodied wisdom. Learning is not a transaction or consumption, it is a ceremony of remembering, relating, and returning to self.

What is a community circle?

A community circle is a practice-based learning community, receiving community care, hosted every month for free and open for anyone to join. In this circle, you'll learn basic tools to support your nervous system. You’ll leave feeling grounded, supported, and more at ease in your body.

Sign up for our newsletter to find out about our next monthly community offering. All community circles are held virtually.

Abstract Earth Surface

Crystal guides embodied, movement-based experiences for connection and healing. Her work bridges somatic practice with earth-based ways of knowing — recognizing that the body is not separate from land, rhythm, and relationship.

She is an Andean medicine carrier with Coahuiltecan roots, weaving in her ancestral medicine practices of Curanderismo, and in relationship with elders and teachers including those of Mayan, Mexica, Shipibo, and Q'ero Andean traditions. Through movement, voice, and presence, she holds relational spaces where people can return to themselves and to the earth beneath them.

These practices are ancient and living. Crystal approaches them with humility, in continued learning, and in deep gratitude to the lineages and teachers who carry and transmit them. Her work is further informed by a clinical mental health background, training as a dance movement therapist and teacher, and a PhD student in Integral Studies with research in Indigenous knowledge systems.
